Game-changing Thrane & Thrane EXPLORER 325 receives Inmarsat type approval

EXPLORER 325, the new entry-level ‘on-the-move’ BGAN terminal from Thrane & Thrane has received Inmarsat Type Approval. Unveiled March 2010, EXPLORER 325 is a small, lightweight and easy-to-use terminal for vehicular use, and offers low-cost of entry compared to other BGAN solutions for ‘on-the-move’ applications. First customer shipment has been brought forward following the approval, and now takes place mid-July 2010.

The Thrane & Thrane EXPLORER 325 offers data speeds up to 384kbps standard IP and up to 128kbps streaming, and works down to 5° elevation whether stationary or moving at speed across all types of terrain. It provides global access and is suitable for a wealth of applications and user segments from government and military through to NGO, humanitarian and field service use. The new price point will also open up cost-effective on-the-move communications to new markets, such as utilities and transportation.

The Thrane & Thrane EXPLORER 325 is designed to be easy to install and simple to operate. It consists of three fully integrated units; a transceiver, IP handset and an auto tracking and maintenance free antenna with magnetic roof mounts: Simply place the antenna on the roof of the vehicle, connect it to the transceiver and the vehicle is turned into a mobile communication hub.

“The size, weight and importantly, the price of EXPLORER 325 widens the scope for voice and data use in moving vehicles. We’re delighted to have received Inmarsat Type Approval and we’re looking forward to seeing new types of users taking benefit from being able to reliably use the BGAN service whilst they are moving,” says Morten Rishøj, Market Development Manager at Thrane & Thrane.

The expansion of the Thrane & Thrane EXPLORER family with EXPLORER 325 strengthens the company’s position as the leading manufacturer of terminals for Inmarsat’s BGAN service. Thrane & Thrane EXPLORER terminals are highly regarded across multiple industry sectors thanks to the reliable, robust and easy-to-use hardware that enables trouble-free voice and data communication from anywhere in the world. EXPLORER 325 joins the family as the second on-the-move BGAN terminal, alongside EXPLORER 727.
