F/V Northwestern is fully equipped with SAILOR equipment from Thrane & Thrane. The products cover all needs for on board communication, communication to other vessels and communication to shore - including online internet access via the SAILOR 500 FleetBroadband.

The SAILOR 500 FleetBroadband will be used for internet access and telephone calls for both skipper and crew. The crew will be able to go online and contact family members, doctors and do online banking. Professionally it will be used for communicating to business partners at shore, and in case of any technical problems the crew will be able to send images to technicians at shore.
The two MF/HF systems are used for communication with other fishing vessels over longer distances. Typically they are tuned in to channels where they can listen to/and communicate with other fishing vessels in order to hear what they are experiencing, e.g. bad weather or good fishing.
The SAILOR RT2048 will be used in the same way the SAILOR RT2048 has always been used on board F/V Northwestern; as the main unit for communicating with other vessels on shorter distances (up to 30 nautical miles). This robust VHF has been serving Sig Hansen and the former captain, Sverre Hansen, since 1987. The SAILOR RT5022, another VHF, will be used in the same way, but it also offers DSC in case of an emergency.
The portable radios SAILOR SP3510 and SAILOR SP3520 are used for communication on board as well as communication to other vessels when they are on close range.
The Eprib, the SART, the RT5022, the MF/HF, the Inmarsat C and the SP3520 are all part of the GMDSS package on board the F/V Northwestern. |
