    Long range Identification and Tracking

The Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) at its 81st session in May 2006 adopted new regulations for the LRIT together with associated performance standards and functional requirements.

The infrastructure solution is scheduled to be implemented during 2008 and is defined by the following components:

    • Temporary International Data Exchange (IDE) provided by US
    • Data Distribution Plan (DDP) provided by IMO
    • Datacenter (DC’s) provided by each flag state or regional solutions for a number of flag states

Since there will be no international DC established at this time each flag state has to either establish an ASP/DC solution for their own fleet or to assign an ASP/DC service provide.

Thrane & Thrane have previously provided Infrastructure solutions for a number of Inmarsat systems including, Inmarsat-C, MPDS, Inmarsat-Aero, Inmarsat B/M, BGAN, etc. Further Thrane & Thrane has offered LocPoint as a free of charge tracking service for owners of a Thrane & Thrane Iridium and Inmarsat-C mobile.

Thrane & Thrane can deliver an ASP/DC solution based on a Thrane & Thane product called LocPoint which is visualised on the diagram below. LocPoint will be offered to flag states either as an outsourced service or as an ASP/DC product that flag states can operate them selves. LocPoint is currently used to track about thousand mobiles and is used by some of the major shipping companies

It is anticipated that the Inmarsat-C system will be the main solution for LRIT. Thrane & Thrane has in depth knowledge of the Inmarsat-C system, since Thrane & Thrane has provided the vast majority of the Inmarsat-C LES’s and is one of the main suppliers of Inmarsat-C mobiles.

Further Thrane & Thrane are able to provide 24x7 support to ensure a very high availability.
