Company Description

Commonly called Telemar, the Company was established in 1947 by leading Italian shipping companies with the aim of providing all ships with a fully competent technical support and service network in Italy and abroad by way of reciprocal service agreements with major manufacturing and service companies world-wide.

Widely appreciated global service, expertise and competence led to the appointment of Telemar by Italy's PPT Ministry as responsible body for radio installation, operation, maintenance and traffic accounting on national merchant and pleasure vessels.

Telemar is therefore licensed by the Italian Ministry of Post and Telecommunication to manage radio traffic and radio service on board all vessels flying the Italian flag and is officially recognised as Accounting Authority (AA) by the Governments of Antigua, Bahamas, Belize, Bermuda, Cayman Island, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Ireland, Jordan, Latvia, Liberia, Madeira, Malta, Marshall Islands, Netherlands Antilles, Panama, St, Vincent & The Grenadines, United Kingdom, United States.

Telemar's ITU identification code is IU03.
Telemar is also appointed by Inmarsat as P.S.A (Point of service activation)

Over 145 employees are dedicated to managing the technical activities including 42 on-board service engineers. Dedicated staff takes care of sales, research, installation planning, training, shipping departments, workshops and stock depots.

Under the terms of the license charter, Telemar provides a complete service to all contracted vessels, i.e. Italian vessels are entitled to full use of Telemar's service network while in Italy and abroad. Service requirements abroad are met through the operation of Telemar's (reciprocal) servicing agreements with other companies.

At present Telemar has approx. 4000 vessels under contract, including merchant, pleasure and fishing vessels.

Telemar is authorised to carry out technical surveys on behalf of the American Bureau of Shipping, Bureau Veritas, Det Norske Veritas, Germanischer Lloyd, Lloyd's Register of Shipping, Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, Registro Italiano Navale, Russian Reg of Shipping - CCS.

Telemar is appointed Sales Representative of Italy by JOTRON, MTI, NAVIONICS, RACAL DECCA Systems & Simulators, SPERRY MARINE (DECCA-PLATH-SPERRY), Thrane & Thrane (SAILOR), TAIYO, JRC.

Sales & Service activities of Telemar include radio navigation equipment such as:

• Radio stations on board ships, including VHF-HF-FM direction finders, aerial systems, mobile and ship Inmarsat terminals, GMDSS radio equipment, AIS;
• Bridge navigation systems, including ARPA Radars, GPS/Omega/Loran/Decca receivers, weather facsimile receivers, VDR, ECDIS, Integrated Bridge System, Log, echosounder, gyro, autopilot;
• TV and computer-aided systems;

Telemar has long been a member of C.I.R.M organisation and is ISO 9001 certified since October 1996 for its sales and technical activities.
